Stamping

Decorating a belt, bag or saddle can be done with only a few stamps. However, many people use more than just a few stamps.
There are over 400 different stamps available. Each of those stamps has its own effect and purpose within a project. This may sound strange, but apart from the figure stamps with images (like an eagle or a horse for example), there are stamps to create shadow, background, scales, depth and so on.

Stamping begins with a piece of veg-tanned leather; double shoulders are mostly used. You also need a steady surface (that has no spring in it), a wooden or rawhide mallet, a swivel knife, stamps, water and a sponge.
Soak the leather with a wet sponge. As soon as the colour brightens again you are ready to cut with the swivel knife and stamp the leather. Keep the leather moist to get the best stamping results.

In our web shop you will find the leather and tools needed to stamp. All available stamps are depicted in our web shop.
