Measuring and cutting

Nothing is as important as measuring and cutting of leather.
If this is not done accurately it might affect the whole creation. To prevent making mistakes it is advisable to start off making patterns.
Mark damaged areas of the leather with a silver pen. After everything is marked you can place the patterns on the leather, avoiding the marked areas. It may take some puzzling, but you can save a lot of leather by doing this.

The cutting of the leather can be done with several different knives. You can use a ‘Tinames’ (=shoemakers knife), a round knife, rotary cutter or a Stanley knife.
The choice of a knife is a matter of preference. Never let anyone tell you what knife to use. Choose the one that works best for you.
To get the best results use a sharp knife and a smooth cutting surface. A poly cutting board is preferred to protect your cutting tools.

We would like to refer you to our web shop. There you will find a book called ‘Leathercraft tools’ that describes how to use and sharpen your tools and how to maintain them.
